This all started when I was on maternity leave with my youngest, Haiden. We had just moved back to Ontario after almost five years in BC, bought a home in Midland, and suddenly I found myself a new mom in a new town… with no one to call for a walk, a coffee, or even a quick “is this normal?” chat.
So I started a small Facebook group. The idea was simple: connect with local moms, go for walks, share advice, and make the adjustment to motherhood feel a little less isolating. I still remember the day the group hit 25 people; I was completely shocked. I never expected moms from across Midland to join so quickly, or for the conversations to become as real and supportive as they did.
As the group kept growing, something really beautiful happened. The online chats turned into patio drinks. Patio drinks turned into me reaching out to local businesses. And that turned into a whole lineup of events such as, wine and paint nights, aerial yoga, Galentine’s dinners, wreath-making workshops, trivia nights, even mental health sessions for moms who needed a safe space to breathe.
This community has grown far beyond anything I imagined when I was a tired, lonely mom pushing a stroller around a new neighbourhood. It became a space where moms could laugh, cry, find support, make friends, and feel human again.
Now, I’m taking the next step. I’m so excited to grow this into something bigger, to transition Social Midland Moms into SMM Collective. A community built by moms, for moms, where connection, support, and real friendship continue to thrive.
This group started with a walk… and look where we’re going now. 💛
